Laura Asks About Motherhood

Laura Asks Joni About Motherhood

Listen Later

Joni talks openly about how it has been for her as a mother. She touches on the loss of her mother-in-law earlier this year, and shares that the birth of her son a month after her mother-in-law's passing brought a light in a dark time. She shares some of her experience of having postpartum depression and anxiety, and how she found ways to cope. She also gives some reassuring advice to take the pressure off. If you, or anyone you know, are struggling with mental health problems, you can call SAMHSA's national helpline. SAMHSA is the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, and the National Helpline number is 1-800-662-HELP, or 1-800-662-4357. To quote their website, www.samhsa.gov, this service is a confidential, free, 24-hour-a-day, 365-day-a-year, information service, in English and Spanish, for individuals and family members facing mental and/or substance use disorders. This service provides referrals to local treatment facilities, support groups, and community-based organizations. If you have any thoughts or questions, or if you want to share your thoughts on motherhood on the podcast, you can reach out to me, Laura Pruett, on the Laura Asks About Motherhood Facebook page or Instagram account.
