Episode 026 – Laura Batson – is a graduate of Georgia State University with a degree in Art History. After graduation, she taught children how to swim. From there she worked as a sales associate, account executive, personal assistant, and long-term substitute teacher. A few years ago she decided to transition into tech. She did that by attending the Thinkful online coding bootcamp. In the two years since graduating from the coding bootcamp, Laura has worked as a React developer. Currently, she works for CNN.
Her biggest motivator to get into tech was having a child. She and her husband were scraping by paycheck-to-paycheck. Once she became a mom she felt motivated to create a more lucrative and stable career to take care of her child. The daily responsibilities of taking care of a child resulted in her having a very insane schedule. She frequently found that she was studying usually between midnight and 2 AM when her daughter was asleep. If any mothers out there are thinking of getting into tech, listen to Laura’s journey and the challenges she faced.
