Lauren Boebert Switches Districts After It Becomes Clear She Can't Win
Lauren Boebert announced this week that she is switching Congressional districts and will no longer be running for reelection in Colorado's 3rd district, opting instead to run for the seat being vacated by retiring Republican Ken Buck in Colorado's much more conservative 4th district. Boebert will likely still have a heck of a primary fight ahead of her, but if she survives that, she won't have any trouble winning the general election.
Also, Donald Trump is demanding that a pro-MAGA think tank called The America First Policy Institute give him some of the millions of dollars that they have raised because they are using his name and branding to make themselves rich, as Trump says. The only problem with Trump's demand is that it is completely illegal for him to take any money from this kind of PAC, and if they follow through with it then both sides could be in serious legal trouble.
And Marjorie Taylor Greene announced this week that she has found an impeachable offense committed by President Biden, she just needs all of the evidence to prove it. In other words, she's launched a new conspiracy theory and is praying that the facts will eventually back her up. Her new claim is dubious, at best, and even if she can prove it, it might not actually be an impeachable offense at all. Farron explains Greene's new theory.
Finally, Special prosecutor Jack Smith submitted a filing this week seeking to bar Donald Trump from spreading conspiracy theories and other forms of misinformation during the upcoming trial. But there was one small phrase that really should have grabbed the headlines - Smith made sure to say that some witnesses need to be protected so that they don't violate the "Speech or Debate Clause," which only applies to members of Congress.
