Laurie is a Ph.D. psychologist who raised two sons mostly on her own. When the second one heads off to college she is left with an empty home, a deep depression, and a burdensome thought—this isn't supposed to happen to psychologists.

While "the unexamined life is not worth living," is a stronger stance than I take, I do believe the examined life allows a person to get smarter about how to live it. 

So, that's what I do here—reflect on my life or something from life. My hope is that my public reflections prompt your own private reflections and that together we build a life with a little more breathing room, a little more intelligence, a little more forgiveness for ourselves and those we love.
