What has your attention? What has your love? Your loyalty? Your enthusiasm? What are you devoted to? What is the object of your lavish devotion? There may be many answers to these questions, but in the end there are only two real options: devotion to Christ or devotion to self. This is the dichotomy presented by Mary and Judas in John 12:1–8, in which Mary anoints Jesus’ feet with an expensive perfume.
