Law & Racism with Shabane Williams

Listen Later

What is systemic racism?
It's racism embedded through laws and regulations within society and unfortunately is far too common in today's world.
Our guest, Shabane Williams, has been dealing with racism from a young age. She invites us to hear the story of not being exposed to this type of racism, in the diverse community she grew up in, until her family moved to a predominantly white neighorhood and systemic racism came through in highschool.
Shabane recalls how her parents used their intelligence and voices rather than violence to make changes. This event sparked her desire to go into the legal system.
Shabane shares her observation of the lack of diversity in the court system and her passion to have diversity in the field. She shares with us how eye opening it is to be as a black woman in the system and seeing the difference for minorities when it comes to legal consequences.
We also chatted with Shabane about her fear to speak up and how she found her voice.
