When the watchers saw the beautiful women of the earth, they abandoned the will of God and succumbed to the spirit of lawlessness, which means operating outside the boundaries of the will of God. This is the same spirit they imparted to the women and mankind, which increased sin to a previously unknown level. The result was unlimited violence every moment God's breath was inside His image or mankind. This perverted the entire world, thus, the flood.
