In a competitive marketplace that has the same product or service that you offer, what could be your edge? What will set you apart from the pack? What will keep people coming to you and not to a competitor? There is only one thing you should do and that is, give value.
In life, when you help others more deeply and largely, the law of reciprocity sets in. It’s returned to you in various ways and forms, not necessarily from the person you directly did it to. That is how the universe conspires.
For all we know, as regards the core strength training, there is not much that differs in the way you do the workouts and exercise but what sticks you out above the rest is the value you give to your clients. When you are in the service industry, impressing your audience doesn’t always work. People relate more to authenticity. When you are being yourself that’s when they resonate with you more and they take action.
Giving value doesn’t always mean everything is reciprocated, it is also about being comforted with the fact that the person is much better now than when you found him.
Don Campbell is a graduate of the University of Manitoba's Faculty of Law and has been practicing law in Winnipeg since 1990. He was previously the National Director of Compliance for IQON Financial, a 400 advisor mutual fund dealer based in Winnipeg and prior to that was Legal Counsel, Compliance, with Assante Asset Management Ltd. He provides legal counsel services and compliance oversight to portfolio managers, investment fund managers, investment dealers, and exempt market dealers located from Vancouver Island to Ontario.
In this episode, Don shares about how hard work pays off. Things have never been easy when he started early on in his law career. Hustle was something that describes his life back then. Somehow he’s over and beyond that already. In the way he lives his life even to this day value giving is a byword for him. In everything that he does, all he thinks about is giving value. It has given him joy knowing he has helped someone find meaning in life. Not only that, the satisfaction it brings to other people for the value he has given them brings him the most loving thought of how he makes a deeper and profound impact to others. He is the first to acknowledge that giving value has given him returns in various ways and forms. This only goes to show that when you truly care for others, it just boomerang. And talk about investment, his brilliant advice could not be discounted.
“One of my main points is that no matter what you're doing in your field, you have to start with one thing, that base which is subject matter expertise. You have to have subject matter expertise because that's the core of what someone's coming to you for. But the value that you provide ends up being so much more than that.”
