History Explains It All

Le Teatre du Grand-Guignol: French Horror Theatre

Listen Later

Hello Everyone & Welcome to Spooky Season! We are starting off on a quite macabre note: Le Teatre du Grand-Guignol in Paris. This was a theatre in the Pigalle section of Paris that catered to very graphic, realistic and gruesome plays. The theatre ran from the 1890s to the 1960s. We will discuss the history of the theatre, as well as the history of theatre in France at the time. We will also be covering various plays, writers, actors and recipes for the prosthetics and gore throughout the run of the theatre.

Disclaimer: This episode discusses blood, guts and gore used in realistic theatre plays. If you are uncomfortable with graphic descriptions of these topics, we ask that you check out one of our other episodes.
