A common understanding in Western culture of what it is to be a leader is an especially talented front person who carries with them a special, world-changing vision. This combination sets them apart from “ordinary people” and, when success is added to the mix, the result is often elevation to celebrity status.

The American Church is not immune to to this behavior; in fact, history proves that they have succumbed to it time and time again with disappointing and destructive consequences. The question is: “Why”?
