What Impact Really Means
Impact is the positive, lasting change a leaderproduces in people, systems, environments, and generations. It can be through kindheartedness or through innovations.
Results answer the question: What did you achieve?
Impact answers the deeper question: Who became better because you led?
A leader can hit targets and still destroy people. (I was speakingat a leadership training in one of the prominent aluminum companies in Nigeriain November, I said that if you are only result oriented as a leader, you willget the result but at the expends of the people, so you get the result but youlost the people. Hence Transformation most likely will not happen to them andto me that is a poor result. In contrast, you focus on impacting the people, itmight take time and the result not immediate, but eventually, the people youhave built will bring the result you need with ease and they in turn can trainother, this make you impacts trans-generational and that is LEGACY. Lead forlegacy not just productivity.
A leader can deliver profits and still leave scars.
But a leader who leads with impact leaves people stronger, wiser, braver, andbetter positioned for life—even after the leader is gone.
True leadership is measured by what grows when you touchit.
