**Standing Firm: The Purpose of Our Pain | 1 Thessalonians 2:13–20**

Why does God allow His people to suffer? Is our pain meaningless, or can God use it for His purposes?

In 1 Thessalonians 2:13–20, Paul reminds us that suffering is not evidence that God has abandoned His people. The Thessalonians received the Word of God, stood firm amid opposition, and continued to live for Christ even when following Him was costly.

In this message, we’ll see three truths:

**1. Receive the Word Amid Suffering** — God’s Word is not merely information; it is at work in His people.

**2. Recognize Gospel Opposition** — Following Christ faithfully will sometimes bring opposition, but we should not be surprised when the Gospel is resisted.

**3. Rejoice in Gospel Fellowship** — We were never meant to endure the Christian life alone. Our fellowship in Christ strengthens us to persevere and continue proclaiming the Gospel.

Ultimately, our hope is not found in how strong our faith is, but in how strong Christ is. Jesus suffered for sinners, endured the cross, and rose again—and because we belong to Him, we can stand firm when suffering comes.

**The reason we can stand firm is not that we’re strong enough to hold onto Jesus—it’s that Jesus is strong enough to hold onto us.**
