TSN Leafs reporter Mark Masters joined Nick Alberga and Jay Rosehill to dissect Toronto’s 2–1 overtime loss to Detroit and tee up Mitch Marner’s return to Scotiabank Arena on Friday night.

Former Maple Leaf Shawn Matthias joined Nick Alberga & Jay Rosehill on the show.

Matthias opened with a player’s perspective on how teams reset after an ugly loss like Toronto’s clunker against Minnesota on Monday night, breaking down the dreaded first game back after a road trip and why it’s such a challenge for players. The Mississauga native then reflected on living out a boyhood dream with the Leafs during the 2015–16 season, admitting he would’ve worn the blue and white for 20 years if he could’ve.

He also shared insight into playing for Mike Babcock, including what he learned from him and a great behind-the-scenes Babcock story. Matthias was part of the last-place Leafs team that ultimately landed Auston Matthews first overall — and yes, the boys had some fun joking about his role in helping secure a franchise cornerstone.

To wrap it up, Matthias weighed in on whether he thinks the current Leafs will make the playoffs and offered his thoughts on Morgan Rielly and Nazem Kadri, two teammates he played with in Toronto.
