About Dr. Marianne

Marianne has lived in the Glendora community for nearly 40 years. She earned two teaching credentials and was working on her first Masters Degree when she was encouraged to join the International Dyslexia Association in the Inland Empire. She hadn’t learned about dyslexia before that. She thought all Special  Education students were physically or mentally challenged, in wheelchairs and/or drooled. When she taught third grade and then middle school, she saw bright students who just couldn’t read or write. She wondered what else could she do to help these kids? She began writing her own curriculum realizing that children in grades 2-8 all struggled with phonemic awareness.

She met a woman who used music with her reading program. When Marianne tried the music in the left ear of her students, they could read much smoother and write so much better.

On 2/22/2014 she earned her Doctorate Degree to share the value of music to accelerate reading for dyslexic children. All students made significant improvement with a multisensory reading program; however, those using the music made an additional twenty percent improvement in their reading. Quite Significant!

In 2018 she published her first book, A Message of Hope. She left the public school system in June, and started a nonprofit called Step by Step Dyslexia Solutions. She traveled and trained teachers across the United States and up and down California with the SPIRE reading program.

In 2018 she developed a music app called CDSM (Cintron Dyslexia Solutions with Music) which plays music in the left ear and her spelling exercises in the right ear. The reading program she used for her Doctorate was no longer in print, so she was forced to create her own reading program which was ready in 2019. She’s had over 200 hours of Orton Gillingham practicum training and has tutored numerous students, in person and on Zoom. Now Dr. Cintron offers two programs: Her favorite is her Step By Step Reading with music where all students, regardless of grade, start at the same basic level. They go through the same exercises and advance at their own pace. Students are excited to learn phonics and grammar tricks using two-three workbooks and use the CDSM app to take daily spelling tests. Dr. Marianne offers the Orton Gillingham model without the music, workbooks, and app. In this method one phoneme (phonics sound whether ir, er, or, ur, ea, ow, ch)  is taught and reviewed before a new phoneme or sound is taught. There is a lot of review and building of sounds. Both methods follow the Orton Gillingham model of being explicitly taught, being structured, sequential, systematic, and cumulative in nature.

She has published three books on using music to teach the dyslexic child to read and has hosted webinars and speaks at conferences, on TV and Radio programs and on Zoom around the world. She has plans to help start a Dyslexia School in Cameron, Africa in 2022.

Dr. Marianne has been an educator for twenty-three years, and a classroom teacher for ten.  Step By Step is her second nonprofit. Her first was Alpha Learning Center in 2005 when she was a Supplemental Education Service (SES) provider for five low-income school districts in California. She was an adjunct professor at Azusa Pacific University while she was an Educational Therapist at a private Christian School. She returned to school to work seven years on her Doctorate and chose to be a substitute te
