Learn By Doing: Motion Picture Production at IU

Listen Later

Studies show that experiential learning is the most engaging and effective way to learn. Experiential means hands-on training actually DOING the thing you’re trying to learn – pretty much what we do here with volunteers and interns in the WFHB newsroom. On the campus of Indiana University, correspondent Ryan LaPedis (Luh-PEE-diss) discovered an immersive filmmaking class where students create a short film every week, rotating through the different job roles needed to produce professional-grade cinema. One week you’re operating a boom microphone, the next week you’re the director, and this way everyone learns how all these roles work together in the real world. Ryan goes behind-the-scenes to shadow students in Intermediate Motion Picture Production in a feature report produced in partnership with The Media School at Indiana University.
