Nature has provided a number of excellent templates for the design of antimicrobial surfaces, some examples being the wings of cicadas and dragonflies. This presentation discusses the unique characteristics of such surfaces, and the mechanisms by which bacteria are killed when coming into contact with these surfaces. Recorded on 13 November 2015.
