Learning For Legacy

Learning Revolutions | Understanding your Learning & Thinking Styles

Listen Later

Today we look at one of the 4 key aspects of generational wealth, understanding your learning style. In this episode of Learning for Legacy, Afam will be covering topics such as intelligence, determining your learning style, and the concept of multiple intelligences.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • IQ tests confuse logic with overall intelligence and the historic method of education is not a great indicator of how smart someone is.
  • Greater success in learning will come when our combination of learning styles are discovered and we are encouraged towards the balanced development of our abilities.
  • Areas of intelligence we have to consider are numerical, linguistic and verbal, musical, kinesthetic or physical, spatial and visual, interpersonal and intrapersonal, creative, and sensory.
  • Learning styles are a combination of three things. How you take in information, how your brain organises and processes that information, and thirdly the physical conditions that allow you to learn well.
  • How we take in information can generally be broken down into three categories. Visual, what you see or read. Auditory, what you hear. Kinesthetic, physically doing the activity, for example drawing.
  • Generally, the left-hand side of the brain takes in linear information, and the right side tends to take in big picture information.
  • The four thinking style groups are Concrete Sequential, someone who is good with facts, formula, and rules. A Concrete Random thinker is experimental and tries to solves problems, often in different ways. Abstract Random thinkers are influenced by feelings and emotions and can associate those with information. Abstract Sequential people think in concepts and find it easy to work out what is important.

BEST MOMENTS

‘For everybody it's slightly different'

‘Historically many school classrooms have failed to meet the needs of these different areas'

‘No one thinking style is superior to another'
