Jesus promises us that we will suffer (John 16:33 and Mark 8:34-38). Will we suffer wisely or foolishly?
Suffering foolishly--because of our poor choice--should be avoided if possible. Suffering wisely--because we love God and his kingdom and his truth--can hrlp other people to want to know more about who God really is. Philippians 4:6-7 tells us, "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” The most important idea in suffering well is remembering that God is with us. We are NOT alone.
We can learn to suffer wisely as we learn more about God through the Bible, which equips us for every good work (II Timothy 3:10-17).
