Leave the boat Matt 4:18-22

I watch a couple youtube channels about sailing- it’s a fantasy. Go and live on the seaThe truth is, its never going to happen- One- I don’t don’t know how 2. I don’t have a boat 3. It would be scary 4. God hasn’t called me to that. We must do what God has called us to- and we have all been called to leave the boat and followJesus calls the disciples. He goes and he finds Peter and Andrew, he calls, and they immediately follow. He sees two other brothers, and he calls them as well.

What can we get from this scripture?

When Jesus calls, Respond

I was always taught as a child that when an adults asks you do to something, you do it, without commentary. You just do it. You’re a child. You can dissent when you’re an adult. Some people were never taught that way, so when it comes to the things of God, they seem to always want to discuss, and prolong the decision process- this wasn’t the case with these guysThey immediately v20 They immediately v22Jesus shows up, seemingly out of no where- and calls these guys according to the book of Luke, they may have heard Jesus preach before this time, but they were still willing to get moving“Immediately” there’s certainty to that word. There’s a powerful response to that word. It’s a right now- I’m doing it type of word. I know I talk about Military a lot- you probably get tired of it- but most of you didn’t serve. You don’t understand what its like to take military orders- you’ve never been broken- immediate compliance- Yes sergeant- moving sergeant. There’s no dissentMatthew 7:26-2726 “But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: 27 and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall.”It’s foolish. Why would you argue with Mr Jesus? What benefit is there to that? None. But people do it all the time- they know the truth, they hear the truth but they don’t respondIt’s the “I think my way is better “ version of Christianity. Some of you have been going to church for years, know what God has asked, and don’t moveThe Bible is a record where the obedient are praised and the disobedient are scornedWe all know this- its not a new revelation- but we all, at times will operate in delayed obedienceWhat does it mean to youAre you dragging your feet on Jesus? Has he come by, and spoken to you, but you have been taking your time, and not responding to him? Here’s where the “faith and not works” crowd always chimes in- the “Jesus paid it all” crowd. Jesus did pay it all, but he doesn’t do it all. James 2:14 What does it profit, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can faith save him? Those are challenging words for people that struggle with action and responsivenessThis following Jesus is a right now- get to work- lets go- endeavorMatthew 7:21 21 “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven.Years ago the Lord had laid on my heart to perform an action- and I was reluctant- the HS spoke to C to get to me- called that person right then and there on the phone- could take you intersection- you have to act immediately or else it wont happen. Get movingJames describes the people who refuse to answer the call of God on their life- James 1: 22 But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. 23 For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; 24 for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was.We must be diligent in our callings- we must give it our full attention- we can’t let up2 Peter 1:55 But also for this very r...
