Depressing

After the first couple of chapters, the remainder of the book is devoted to a marriage falling apart. I would have preferred more about life in Africa.

Another wonderful memoir by Alexandra Fuller. Absorbing, exotic, amusing, wise and filled with her lush African memories. And this one is read by Fuller herself, with her enchanting voice matching perfectly her accent and the text. This is a not-to-be missed book for those who loved her others, best read after the first two.

Strangely honest

I thought I knew her. Thats what I took away from this read. After each of her books, which I read in chronilogical order, I thought I had a good understanding of who she is. But she has managed to morph with each book with some surprising results. It makes sense when you give it some thought. With each phase of our lives we learn and change with our experiences and maturity but Alexandra Fuller continues to evolve. I can't wait to read about the next adventure/phase of her life. She doesn't disappoint!

unlike some this Author is a good narrator

Made me laugh, the last quarter was gripping...I must listen to the first half again, needs some deeper thinking. The 3 books of Ms. Fullers memoirs were great binge listening. Three different perspectives important ly with different narrators weaving the story into a whole, I enjoyed all three equally. Made me content in my black and white, made me forgive my steps over to the colorful side. I wonder if it might be worth another listen in the future!

Another first person masterpiece!

Alexandra Fuller pours her heart into each book about her real life family and helps us experience the humor and reality of her family. But she managers to do this without belittling any of them. She speaks the truth in a way that makes you the reader feel that it is your family too. In this book she examines her marriage and her relocating to America that is honest, and yet respectful of the relationship. She is wonderful as a narrator. You feel like you are sharing a conversation over tea. I have read all of her books and this one seemed the most heartfelt.
