Cities and Memory - remixing the world

Leaving Libya

Listen Later

Three Kenyan women are returning home from Libya through an IOM repatriation scheme. They were forced to abandon their larger suitcases when checking-in, and were attempting to repack their belongings into their carry-ons and an IOM-issued tote bag in the departures lounge.

Migrants from other countries were also being repatriated on the same flight and conversed with one another in the seats next to them.

Recorded by Rima Kalush.

Part of the Migration Sounds project, the world’s first collection of the sounds of human migration.
