Leaving the Kid's Table

Moses has seen a burning bush, a staff turn into a snake, and a hand healed on the spot. He still says “send someone else.” In Exodus 4, God answers every excuse Moses gives with a promise of His help. If you’ve ever told God “I can’t,” this one is for you. And so is the question at the end.

Egypt saw Moses as a murderer and a shepherd, the lowest of the low. Then God asked him to set a nation free. In Exodus 3, Moses asks the question so many of us ask when God calls: who am I? God's answer isn't what you'd expect.

Have you ever felt forgotten or all alone? Moses was raised in Pharaoh's house, ended up a runaway at a well in Midian, and the Israelites were still slaves in the place they were born. In Exodus 2 we follow Moses through all of it, then land on three verses that raise a real question. What made God remember? Genesis is over, but the covenant isn't. In Exodus 1, a new generation of Israelites faces an old promise in a new form affliction, growth in spite of it, and two midwives who feared God more than they feared a king. This episode sits inside the tension of not knowing why hard seasons happen, and asks whether that not knowing is where we're being shaped for what's next.

Jacob is dead. His sons are terrified of what comes next. And in one raw, unscripted episode, Chad closes out the entire book of Genesis with the question that's been underneath it the whole time not "what did you do," but "what does your heart say?" Jacob is dying, and he calls his twelve sons together for the last words he'll ever speak over them, not comfort, not sentiment, but truth and prophecy about who they've been and who they're becoming. In the middle of a famine so severe it bankrupted an entire nation, one family was multiplying.
