In light of the recent hate crimes against the AAPI community, we wanted to highlight an Asian author and their story. Within Gloria Chao’s “American Panda,” we follow Mei Lu’s personal & professional growth during her first year of college at MIT (just across the river from where Dani and Izzie went to college!). Dani and Izzie discuss the experience of “leaving the nest,” learning to ask why, and where your loyalty lies in regards to family and love. Dani thanks all the guys who have held her hand despite her excessively sweaty hands while Izzie relives her first act of rebellion against her parents.
