LeBron James Backs Kamala Harris for President in Scathing Anti-Trump Video

Listen Later

In a significant move just days before the 2024 presidential election, NBA superstar LeBron James has officially endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris for president. James, known for his outspoken stance on social and cultural issues, made his endorsement clear through a powerful video posted on social media.

The video, which was produced by Holland West Productions, is a scathing critique of former President Donald Trump's history of racist remarks. It begins with comments made by a comedian, Tony Hinchcliffe, at Trump's October 27 rally at Madison Square Garden, where Hinchcliffe made derogatory remarks about Black Americans and referred to Puerto Rico as a "floating island of garbage." The video then juxtaposes these comments with Trump's own racially divisive statements, such as his assertion that immigrants are "poisoning the blood of our country" and that migrants are taking jobs from Black Americans.

Interspersed with these clips are images from the U.S. Civil Rights movement, highlighting the stark contrast between Trump's rhetoric and the principles of equality and justice. The video concludes with the text "hate takes us back," emphasizing James' concern for the future of his children and family.

"When I think about my kids and my family and how they will grow up, the choice is clear to me. VOTE KAMALA HARRIS!!!," James wrote in his social media post accompanying the video.

This endorsement is not James' first foray into politics. He has a history of clashing with Trump, notably when he labeled Trump a "bum" in 2017 after Trump criticized NBA player Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors for their reluctance to visit the White House. James also criticized Trump for his stance on NBA players kneeling during the national anthem, calling it "disgraceful."

James has consistently used his platform to support Democratic candidates, having endorsed and campaigned with Hillary Clinton in 2016 and supported President Joe Biden in 2020. His endorsement of Harris comes as she and her party intensify their outreach to minority voters, particularly Black and Hispanic men, a demographic Trump has been trying to sway.

Harris' campaign has welcomed several high-profile endorsements, including those from pop star Beyoncé Knowles-Carter and rock musician Bruce Springsteen. According to a senior Harris campaign official, these celebrity endorsements help connect with voters outside traditional political channels.

James' endorsement underscores his commitment to social justice and his belief in the importance of leadership that promotes equality and inclusivity. As one of the most influential athletes of his generation, James' voice carries significant weight, and his support for Harris could have a notable impact on the election.
