LeBron James Misses Lakers Games to Support Son's State Championship Bid

LeBron James, the superstar forward of the Los Angeles Lakers, is currently sidelined due to a left groin strain he suffered last Saturday. This injury has kept him out of the lineup for his third consecutive game, including the recent matchup against the Denver Nuggets on Friday night.

Despite his absence, James has the full support of his team to prioritize family. He is set to travel to Sacramento to attend his son Bryce James' Division I basketball California state championship game. Bryce, a senior at Sierra Canyon High School, will be playing in the state title game against Lincoln High School. This marks a significant event for the James family, as Sierra Canyon last reached a state title game in 2020 when Bryce's older brother Bronny was a freshman, though that game was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Bryce has already committed to play for the University of Arizona next season[1][5].

James' injury is expected to keep him out for one to two weeks, although an official return date has not been set. Lakers coach JJ Redick noted that James is "very close" to returning but did not provide specific details[1][3].

The Lakers, already depleted by injuries, faced a tough challenge against the Nuggets. In addition to James, Luka Doncic was ruled out due to left calf injury management and a right ankle sprain after scoring 45 points in the previous night's game. Other key players, including Rui Hachimura, Jaxson Hayes, Dorian Finney-Smith, and Gabe Vincent, were also unavailable due to various injuries. Despite these setbacks, the Lakers put up a fierce fight, led by Austin Reaves' 37 points and Dalton Knecht's 32 points, but ultimately lost 131-126[2][3].

James' son Bronny, who was recalled from the G League, contributed five points in 16 minutes of play, showing his resilience despite feeling under the weather[2][3].

As the Lakers prepare for their next game against the Phoenix Suns on Sunday, they hope to see the return of their injured players and regain their momentum in the competitive NBA landscape.
