The Lectio Divina is a five-fold practice that invites you to immerse yourself in scripture by preparing, reading, reflecting, responding, and resting. We will read the scripture three times this morning.
Prepare: To begin, I simply invite you to take a deep breath in and breathe out. Let’s take another deep breath in...and out. Wherever you find yourself, however you find yourself, know that God is with you right now. As we prepare to read our scripture, consider praying this simple prayer as you continue to breathe: “God, let me hear from you.” (PAUSE)
Read: As we read our passage for the first time, listen for any words or phrases that seem to jump out. Don’t feel like you have to force anything, simply listen and see where the Spirit nudges your attention. Once I finish reading the passage, I will leave space for some silence and reflection. What words or phrases jump out to you during this initial reading? If you feel you need more time, simply pause this recording. {1st READING}
Reflect: As we read our scripture a second time, think about why these words or phrases stood out. What do you believe God is saying to you through this passage? Once I have finished reading, I will leave space for some silence and reflection. {2nd Reading}
Respond: As we read our scripture one final time, consider how God might be calling you to respond. Perhaps your response is an action you need to take, or a thought you need to consider. However you are being called to respond, take a moment to write it in your journal, create a note on your phone, or log it in your memory and keep it with you throughout the day. Once I have finished reading, I will leave space for some silence and reflection. {3rd Reading}
Rest: The final step in Lectio Divina is simply to rest. This isn’t time to pray or meditate, but rather to allow God to continue to work in your thoughts however God will work. Take as much time as you need and when you’re ready, return your focus to the order of your day.
Closing: Thank you for joining me in prayer today. May the God who speaks to you now continue to speak over you as you journey through these hours. Go in peace. Go in God. Amen.
