I don’t normally share my actual class lectures publically, but I was pleased with this orientation to debating lecture I recently gave to my public speaking students as an introduction to what “comes next” after you become engaged with rhetoric at the base level of a speech course.
In this lecture I try to orient the class to the idea of debate as a discourse, a part of rhetoric, and try to dissociate debate from the negative assumptions we make about it from our culture of rhetorical poverty.
