Left Hand Notes Tips While Shepherds Watch Their Flocks By Night Chords Piano Bass

hi tail tellers welcome to while shepherds watch their flocks by night this is our final one for today um for the piano we didn't do any cello classes today so don't worry you haven't missed out and unfortunately i can't get any um i was teaching today so it's a little bit tied up i didn't get any skills practice in for you that's a bit unfortunate i don't like when that happens so i hope you got on with some of the other classes um remember that uh you know we're going through all of the books for all of the examination syllabus um and you know lots of other stuff in between doing jazz and rock and pop and all sorts of exciting things so you can catch up um anyway back to business what have we got here well while ships watch their flocks by night nice and early so that we can practice it and have it ready for christmas it's going to be one of several songs we're going to do we're going to do we three kings of oriental and we wish you a merry christmas and plus some others we're going to be doing some jazz versions some improv um works for musicians pianist perhaps you're a little bit uh a little bit more advanced but this welcome to all this it's not just for little kids it's for big kids as well big kids who are beginners let's say that so the left hand of while shepard's watch if you want to hear my version you'll have to go to the other podcast um but the left hand is is quite straightforward actually there's some rhythm things to think about but we started with two quavers but apart from that it's really quite basic so we've got an a an f and a g and then an a a b an a and an f so it goes like this

right now the only thing you need to concern yourself with which a little bit tricky maybe is this b flat okay so three four five three two on the b flat three four and then up to a c and then we're going to move our fingers down a little because we're going to spread out a bit so i want a three on that g a four on the e a three back on the g so it'll be quite there a four on the e a five on the d and a one on the g and then stretch down again so that really the hardest thing about this is actually moving your fingers around you need to be a bit bit dexterous but of course we're we need to be dexterous to be pianists so you're going to be stretching actually from this topsy to this bottom seam okay so let's do that again

stretch down now

now if you were finding that a bit difficult and you don't have the music in front of you what i'll do is i'll make this um this score the picture on the uh on the um podcast so that you can see the notes okay what um you could do is you could just play around with some chords couldn't you

for example i mean that would be quite a good way of doing things and that's what a lot of musicians especially jazz musicians blues musicians musicians that's all they do so you don't have to learn these notes but if you can learn them it'd be quite good now what i'm going to do is i'm going to call out the notes at the start of each bar so what you could do is you could just play um the chord starting with that root so we start off with a and a g so you could play an an a chord instead of worrying about the notes and you just hold it until we get to the next bar which is a g chord okay i mean it's quite useful isn't it to know that and then and then there's an f so you could um for the whole bar and then there's another f so we maybe mix it up a bit okay and then there's a c and then we're coming up to this b flat so you could do a g minor chord for that that would sound rather good i think and then um was quite a few of those and then back to the g perhaps

that sounds rather good doesn't it um and then we finish on a g uh sorry c a c um no we don't finish on an f so um yeah i mean there we go that sounds rather pretty doesn't it that's just the f and the c...
