Today, on the Legacy Purse we brought on estate planning and elder law attorney, Christina A. Sammartino, Esq., to emphasize and compliment some of the topics our previous guests have spoken about. Christina has so much experience in this area of law, both from her own personal/family experience and from years of helping clients. This episode really helps our listeners understand a very complex and complicated topic – Health Care and long-term care planning.
Now, the reason this topic is so important is that many of us have elderly parents that have not yet done a plan or maybe did a plan years ago before they had to consider any major health care costs. And health care can get very expensive for elderly folks (as in $10,000 a month for nursing home care!!). So, for those listeners whose parents have homes and bank accounts in their names, this podcast is for you! Because there can be MAJOR financial consequences for families if your parents do not do the proper planning for long-term health care. (it's bad!)
Christina earned her Bachelor’s degree in legal studies in business from Hofstra University, and then went on to obtain her law degree from Pace University School of Law. Christina is an Associate of Berwitz & DiTata LLP, and she has worked for many years in all areas of estate planning, trust and estate administration, and Elder Law.

In this episode of the Legacy Purse, our topic is designed to help our listeners who own a business learn what could happen to your business if you become incapacitated or die without an estate plan. While this episode is geared towards small (or even large) business owners, we expect that other listeners who are not yet at that stage but striving to get there will gain some valuable information that will put you ahead of the game for when you ARE ready to take that leap into starting your own business. To help cover this important topic, Leslie Sultan talks to Attorney Assad A. Bhatti. You'll also hear them talk a bit about why, as an employee, you need to do your own research for your financial future because you CANNOT rely on your Employer/HR department to protect your best financial interests…that’s not why HR departments are set up.

In episode 02 of the Legacy Purse: Probate: The Inheritance Process, we shared that when a loved one dies and leaves a last will and testament, the probate process is a legal procedure for a judge to validate the will before any of the loved one's instructions can be carried out. But what is the history of this practice? Why does someone's last will require such a public, strict, court process that anyone can find out about? And how did we get here?
In this episode of the Legacy Purse, Leslie Sultan sits down with one of San Francisco’s few Personal Family Lawyer®, Yaasha Sabba, and they break down the history of probate and why this archaic process still exists. Yaasha explains that probate is a "Lawsuit that you file against yourself on behalf of your creditors and is paid for by your estate."

When a loved one dies and leaves a last will and testament, the probate process is a legal procedure for a judge to validate the will before any of the loved one's instructions can be carried out. In this episode of the Legacy Purse, Leslie Sultan sits down with probate attorney Andrea M. Arrigo, and they discuss the probate process and important steps that must be taken for a will to be probated; the legal process for distributing a deceased person's property to their heirs and beneficiaries and settling any debts. This is part 1 of a 2 part episode.
