Hey y’all, welcome to season two! Season one chronicled Big Miles – my grandfather – and his journey as a young boy in Atlanta to an oldie in Cleveland.  So, it only felt right to follow his story with the stories of his and my Grandma’s pride and joy(s): their four children.

This season centers on short stories about my mom, her two younger sisters and brother. Along with my mom, my aunties and uncle were major influences in my life. Their faces, the sound of their voices, and the fly cross colors of their twenties – are etched in my mind, and in my heart.

In this episode, it feels only right to introduce you all to the almighty Crushers. The Crushers were a local, all-Black, championship women’s softball team that played from the early to late 1980s, under the leadership of my Granddad, who was the coach.

The story Granddad tells in this episode is about the women he coached, whom he still affectionately calls, ‘his girls.’ But it’s also a story filled with deep pride, a story about character and sportsmanship and most importantly, a story centered on community.
