So much of what we see, what we understand about the people in our lives is superficial! Truly knowing other humans requires that we get to understand them beyond what our eyes and ears quickly perceive. Carolyn Tillotson reflects on her interactions with middle school students – and adults – to suggest how we can move beyond the superficial. She talks about the importance and the value of listening well, of taking time, of sharing cultural experiences, of planning the development of empathy. Carolyn’s students give her reason to believe truly getting to know others can help Americans work well together.
It seems everyone thinks about some image of “God” somehow, at some point in their lives – even if it is to say they don’t believe in a supernatural entity they can connect to. This podcast is a far ranging, fascinating dialog about the nature of faith. Pastor Rory draws on more than his extensive education in one religion. He has open-mindedly engaged with people whose faith beliefs developed through other cultural contexts. His conversation with Jon explores some of the many paths that individuals follow to develop a faith belief that feels right and works for them. Aligns with Ch 32: “God and Electromagnetic Fields”
Recorded 3/15/2020. Everyone has a bad day sometimes! Such days affect us – and the kids in our lives. Guest David Booth describes how he was affected by “Burned Bacon Days” he experienced during his challenging years as a young student. He tells stories of how his experiences as a kid now helps him empathize with others – and help them when life isn’t going well. Aligns with Ch 5: “Burned Bacon Days”
(Recorded 3/15/20) An experienced and acclaimed chiropractic doctor discusses why she thoroughly explores how a patient “is doing” before proceeding to provide treatment. Dr Jennifer Naas sees patient health as determined by the interconnectedness of the body – and what’s going on in their daily lives. Dr Naas does not hesitate to selectively refer patients to other health care professionals. This podcast aligns with the “The Ankle Bone Connected to the Pituitary Gland. What?” chapter in Jon’s book.
COVID-19 is affecting the kids in our lives in ways that we may never fully understand. No guest for this podcast. Instead, Legacy to Kids Podcast Host Jon Oleson speaks from his heart about the importance of showing kids how people come together to “make things better.” He sees this pandemic as a wakeup call – an ear shattering alarm that we’ve let Partisan Bickering Cancer cripple us. The symptoms have been in front of us for decades. And now they are crystal clear: most of those we elected to serve cannot work as a team even for a situation that critically needs unity. Jon challenges politicians – all of us – to step up to eradicate this curable disease.
As the host of the Legacy to Kids Podcast Jon Oleson will interview many guests who have different backgrounds and perspectives. The show will explore how what we’re doing now as Americans will determine what life will be like for all of us in the near and distant future. Our guests speak from their experience and offer to you the perspective they’ve gotten from their life’s path.
