In this episode of American Joyride, David Hookstead talks to Alan Mack, legendary US Army pilot who served in the Afghanistan War.
Upon graduating high school, Alan C. Mack enlisted in the US Army with the goal of becoming a helicopter mechanic and seeing the world. He served in locations such as the Republic of Korea, West Texas, and the Federal Republic of Germany before attending flight school at Fort Rucker, Alabama. After nearly a year of training, he was qualified to fly UH-1H Huey and CH-47D Chinook aircraft. His first pilot assignment brought him to Savannah, Georgia, where he served as a copilot during Operation Desert Shield and later, flew combat missions as the lead aircraft in Iraq.
