This week we're talking about Three Kings, also one of our Legends of '99, starring George Clooney, Mark Wahlberg, Ice Cube, and Spike Jonze as a group of soldiers who attempt to steal Saddam Hussien's gold in the final days of Operation Desert Storm, but end up finding something else worth fighting for. Directed by David O. Russell, this boldly anti-war release from Warner Brothers also presaged the ideological grounds of the second Iraq War four years later. Based on a story idea allegedly stolen from John Ridley, Russell's script and direction on his first major studio film set the trajectory for his career towards Oscar-nominated films like The Fighter (with Wahlberg), Silver Linings Playbook, and American Hustle. But do we three two kings of Legends Podcast agree that this film earns its gold, or does it deserve a dishonorable discharge?
