Director Chloé Zhao became the first woman of color to win Best Director at the Academy Awards this year with her 2020 film starring Frances McDormand. Based on Jessica Bruder's non-fiction book exploring the lives of van-dwelling transient Americans in the wake of the Great Recession, the film features many of the real-life people from the book playing fictionalized versions of themselves. The film took home the Best Picture statue as well as earning McDormand her third Oscar for Best Actress. Now we're hitting the road to live the van life with Nomadland!
