Listen Later

Kyle has been bustling with energy over the past 24 hours, keeping residents on their toes and eagerly talking about what’s next. The area woke up Friday morning still drying out and swapping storm stories after severe weather swept through Thursday night. Many neighborhoods were pelted with rain and flashes of lightning, with some minor branches down reported but no major damage, which is welcome news for everyone looking forward to the first days of summer break.

After the wild weather, Friday dawned warm and a bit humid, with skies clearing by mid-morning. The high was expected to reach the mid-80s, a classic Central Texas day perfect for outdoor plans if you don’t mind a little leftover dampness on the ground. Pollen levels, unfortunately, were in the moderate range, so allergy sufferers may want to keep the tissues handy. Air quality remained in the good range, so no extra worries for those with sensitivities.

In high school sports, local pride was in the air Thursday evening as Lehman High School’s baseball team closed out their season with a dramatic win, edging out Buda 7 to 6 in a nail-biter that had families and fans on the edge of their seats. Meanwhile, the Lehman girls’ soccer team wrapped up with a solid 3-1 victory over San Marcos, capping off an impressive spring run.

Graduation season is underway, and the Kyle Lions Club just awarded eight hardworking Lehman High seniors with $1,000 scholarships each, helping these students kickstart their future plans. The community’s spirit was palpable at the award ceremony, as local leaders and proud parents cheered on the next generation.

While there’s been a lot of buzz about the city’s famous Gathering of the Kyles event, this year’s record-breaking attempt to amass the most people named Kyle in one spot is officially on pause. Organizers say they’re taking a break to regroup and plan for an even bigger bash in the future, so get ready, all you Kyles — next time, the event is bound to be epic.

The Kyle Fair Tex-Travaganza may have wrapped up earlier in May, but folks are already talking about next year and looking forward to more music, food, and carnival fun. With summer now in full swing, watch for more local events popping up as the season heats up.
