"Is this what you call a fast, a day acceptable to the Lord?" (Isaiah 58:8)
Reflection
Fasting is a sacrifice in humility intended to glorify the Lord.
Therefore, let us be mindful of hypocritical fasting. When we fast but ignore others' suffering, act immorally, or consume things that defile our spirituality, our sacrifice is for vainglory. It is fasting from those things that make fasting genuine.
True fasting is transformative, kind, and loving. It changes our lives and those of others. More importantly, it reflects the entirety of our lives concerning God and neighbor.
Today's Intention
O God, may our fasting be acceptable to you.
