LERCH BATES HIRES RUSSELL FOR NYC OFFICE
Lerch Bates Inc. has hired Tim Russell as a consultant in its Manhattan, New York City (NYC) office. Russell will provide elevator and escalator consulting for new-equipment and modernization projects and conduct due diligence studies. He will also be responsible for vertical-transportation studies and evaluations, construction services and equipment contracting documents. Holding a master's in Public Administration from Webster University and a Bachelor's of Engineering Technology from West Texas A&M University, Russell previously was senior project manager for Schindler, handling numerous notable projects in Toronto.
56 LEONARD WRAPPING UP IN NYC
Construction is completing on the 60-story, 145-unit residential tower at 56 Leonard Street at Church Street in New York City’s (NYC) Tribeca neighborhood, New York YIMBY reports. All that remains for the exterior is replacement of the construction elevator with a façade. The 821-foot-tall building’s Jenga®-like pattern of overhanging floors is prominent. Herzog & de Meuron designed the eyecatching edifice, and Alexico Group and Hines are its developers.
DEVELOPMENT WOULD TRANSFORM L.A. ARTS DISTRICT
Despite size concerns, developer SunCal of Irvine, California, is proposing a major mixed-use project that includes a pair of 58-story towers in the heart of Los Angeles' Arts District at 6th and Alameda streets, the Los Angeles Times reports. What is being called 6AM would transform the formerly down-on-its-luck neighborhood with approximately 1,730 residences, two hotels, offices, a school and public space on the site of two warehouses. The Arts District has been on the upswing in recent years, with high-end lofts, restaurants and galleries opening. Some observers said they would welcome 6AM as an antidote to the housing shortage and part of the changing, taller face of L.A.
