Les Miserables is Overrated - So Why Are We Crying?

We’re Emily and Carolyn, two ex-theater kids who did shows together in our high school theater department. Now we’re all grown up, live in different cities, and have wildly different occupations that have nothing to do with theatre. In High School musicals weren’t just live theater events, they were books, scores, soundtracks, wikipedia articles, YouTube blackholes, and blank slates of endless possibility. We feel like no one talks about musicals as self-contained pieces of art anymore. But, as former theater kids, that’s the only way we ever saw musicals. So, each week we’ll tackle a show commonly performed on the amateur level, i.e. the high school level. We’re not professionals or critics, or experts, we’re just… ex-theater kids.
