“Daniel” is a mixture of history and story, written in the later part of the second century B.C., to give the people of the second century hope while being forced to accept the ways of the then current Greek culture. Daniel is not a real person, rather, he is a mixture of people and ideas to convey the message of refusal to accept. The story is set in the 6th century in order to avoid censure. We can learn a great deal from this story about the pressure of the times when one culture tries to force itself on another.
