We can say with confidence that for the Emmaus disciples, the best was yet to come, because although they didn’t know what the future held, their hope was in the right place: Jesus. And what was true for them is true for us today. We may have been headed the wrong way, we may have been unaware of Jesus being in our midst, we may even have lost sight of our identity in him. But if we will put our hope in the resurrected Messiah — Jesus Christ — we, too, will be able to declare with confidence: The best is yet to come!
