What defines you as a person and how do you deal with what life throws at you?
Life is never easy and each one goes through different struggles. But what will stand out in us are those times when we are at our lowest and when brokenness and nothingness open us up to vulnerability ultimately testing our strength and faith.
The same thing happens in fitness, our will and determination to make things work are put to a test. Those who come out victorious are the ones who pay their dues.
Randy Aikens owns 5 L Fitness and Randy Aikens Fitness. He is a 20-year Air Force veteran and a 12-year fitness industry professional. He believes in teaching people how to enjoy what they do to get in shape so that it can be a part of their life and not a chore. Because of his fitness career, he's had the opportunity to visit Reebok headquarters and workout one on one with Tony Horton and compete in a bodybuilding competition. The thing he has enjoyed most though is interacting and sharing knowledge with his clients.
In this episode, Randy will share with us life lessons on fitness, leadership, mental health, mindset, brokenness, and vulnerability. His one-on-one workout with Tony Horton proves that competitiveness spells success, and that discipline will always be rewarded. His stint in the military afforded him the chance to be an effective leader and communicator. That’s why he reminds us that leadership is taking responsibility for what you do and not do. For us who sees fitness as a task, Randy shares a strategy to help us make it as part of our lifestyle, something to enjoy and love and not as a tedious task to be accomplished. For someone who had been through a mental health issue, he has a lot to say about it. And when you find yourself completely broken, he lays out his journey of vulnerability towards fully knowing himself as a person and what he is capable of achieving. Listen in as he profoundly shares his life story and the lessons that come with it dating back to his senior year, where his defining moment all began.
“So many people tie their fitness to a location instead of tying it to themselves.”
