1 Zedekiah was twenty-one years old when he became king, and he reigned eleven years in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Hamutal the daughter of Jeremiah of Libnah. 2 And he did what was evil in the sight of the Lord, according to all that Jehoiakim had done. 3For because of the anger of the Lord it came to the point in Jerusalem and Judah that he cast them out from his presence. And Zedekiah rebelled against the king of Babylon. Jeremiah 52:1–3 (ESV)
In Jeremiah's day, the people KNEW about God but didn't KNOW Him or have the desire to KNOW Him.
Things we've learned about God through Jeremiah:
9 The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance. 2 Peter 3:9 (ESV)
If you're caught up in a sin, repent ASAP!!
2. God is not an idol, so in regards to your relationship with Him, KEEP IT REAL.
1 Righteous are you, O Lord, when I complain to you; yet I would plead my case before you. Why does the way of the wicked prosper? Why do all who are treacherous thrive? 2You plant them, and they take root; they grow and produce fruit; you are near in their mouth and far from their heart. Jeremiah 12:1–2 (ESV)
3. Because of God's character, there's always HOPE.
21 But this I call to mind, and therefore I have hope: 22 The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; 23they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. 24"The Lord is my portion," says my soul, "therefore I will hope in him." Lamentations 3:21–24 (ESV)
25 The Lord is good to those who wait for him, to the soul who seeks him. 26It is good that one should wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord. Lamentations 3:25–26 (ESV)
31 For the Lord will not cast off forever, 32but, though he cause grief, he will have compassion according to the abundance of his steadfast love; 33 for he does not afflict from his heart or grieve the children of men. Lamentations 3:31–33 (ESV)
40 Let us test and examine our ways, and return to the Lord! Lamentations 3:40 (ESV)
