In today’s episode, Twila and her husband of 19 years, Ryan chat about how they met, their early assumptions about a relationships outside of their race and how those early ignorances have morphed over the years. He reveals his small town background and how that shaped his views for good and bad in their relationship. They answer the question was it worth it, If they had to do over would they, frustrations with race influencing most of their conversations,and what would be the biggest thing that they've learned from being married to someone of a different race. How Ryan has learned to acknowledge and overcome unintentional ignorance, and how they have learned to communicate coming from opposing directions. They recount a few stories here and there.
By sharing part of their story and relationship, they hope to encourage others in an interracial relationship, considering one or those seeking to understand what those different from themselves are going through and have a little success along the way.
