There is legitimate guilt from God that serves to drive us to repentance for our sins. There is also illegitimate, self-imposed guilt that we hold onto after God has forgiven us. Self-imposed guilt is, at its core, a rejection of God’s ability to forgive you and wipe you clean once you have repented.
