Beloved an apple a day keeps the doctor away. But I don’t like apples. They tell me apples are very nutritious. So, there is nothing wrong with apple, I just don’t like them – except when I was a young boy, going to the State Fair. Listen when I went to the State Fair, I run to get a candied apple. Listen they take the apple, and they dip it in liquid sugar. Then, me and apples are all right. Now the problem is that the way the apples have been prepared, the nutritional value has been destroyed. By mixing the apples with the sugar, things are now kind of messed up. Listen when you mix human wisdom with divine wisdom, you cancel divine wisdom. All you have is human wisdom. That’s what the Bible calls being double – minded – in other words being secular and sacred at the same time.
Let’s look at Colossians 2: 6-8
Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him, rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving. See to it that no one takes you captive by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elemental spirits of the world, and not according to Christ.
Philosophy... or Christ? That’s the fork in the road Paul lays before us. Colossians 2:8 says, “Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy.”
