Many people think stress is only a mental thing, like when we’re thinking about too many things or stressing about the future, or past or anything thought-related.
However, our bodies can also go through stress even when our minds are at peace!
For instance when workout intensely or push your body too much or when on tons of medication such as chemotherapy or even too much caffeine.
Although mentally you feel at peace and happy, your body is under stress because cortisol is released into your body.
Stress can have a negative impact on our bodies when we are in stress mode for too long and as a result, glucose, which is our primary source of energy, is released into the bloodstream.
So unconsciously we begin to get cravings that are specific and not healthy, like sugary or fatty foods.
All of this is done to give you the energy you need to escape from a risky situation when in survival mode and the body's involuntary reactions goes into FIGHT, FLIGHT, or FREEZE mode.
Even if you aren't eating foods high in fat and sugar, cortisol also slows down your metabolism, making it difficult to lose weight.
And so the vicious cycle starts: get stressed, release cortisol, gain weight, crave more sugar, eat more sugar, gain more weight.
Each episode will end with a practice area for you to take on and integrate with your life!
