Let’s Talk About…Shame
Dr Matthew Gibson is my special guest on today’s episode where we are taking a deep dive into the topic of shame.
As a woman shame is something I am very familiar with but it’s not something I was aware of until my 30’s yet I see it causing all kinds of issues and challenges for my clients and society as a whole.
Matthew is an associate professor at the University of Birmingham. He has a PhD in self-conscious emotions and professional practice, is a shame researcher and is currently working on a project on shame and medicine. He is the author of Pride and Shame and Child and Family Social Work and Reassessing Attachment Theory for Child Welfare, along with numerous academic journal articles.
We discuss where shame shows up for us in both day to day life and in our businesses.
Matthew also shares ways in which we can recognise and overcome the damage shame is causing to us, our families, and the wider community.
