Samuel Slaney delves beyond the surface of Football with TheBearPitTV's Elliot Hackney, Ex-Pro’s; Joe Davis and Lewin Nyatanga & CEO of Sligo Rovers; Colin Feehily, to demonstrate why football is more than a game.
Stoke City’s relegation from the Premier League had a much larger impact than first thought – with the City’s economy firmly evidencing this.
It’s apparent that a second relegation cannot be afforded.
Elliot Hackney, founder of the biggest Stoke City Fan Channel; TheBearPitTV, reflects on how Stoke ended up in England’s second-tier, as well as the thought process from a passionate football fan’s perspective.
Fans are quick to blame players when a team is underperforming, yet don’t understand the severe and abnormal amounts of stress that players face. Ex-Professional footballers Joe Davis (Ex Port Vale and Leicester City Defender) and Lewin Nyatanga (Ex Derby County and Barnsley Defender) elaborate on these stresses in greater detail.
Davis reflects on his journey through football whilst touching on the astounding lack of support throughout the game, particularly in the retirement phase, and explores how the game should improve on this.
Nyatanga, who was once the youngest ever player to represent the Welsh National Team, discusses the thoughts and emotions that come with such a feat. Lewin reflects on his career in detail and explores how his love for football has gradually diminished. This reflection concludes to a more concrete notion that football is not a ‘normal’ career.
The shocking stats surrounding the game echo the previous statement.
The career of a football player is not normal.
Meanwhile, when the unexpected occurs, the football world is drastically shaken up.
Whilst doubts pour in as to whether the game will continue, fan-owned clubs such as Sligo Rovers must search for new ways to adapt in these testing times…
CEO of Sligo Rovers, Colin Feehily, shares his perspective of how tough the pandemic has been for the club...
