In Episode 15, we celebrate October is National Cybersecurity Awareness Month with a discussion on cybersecurity. In light of the growing threats regarding information security, I have a conversation with founders Adam Sheffield and Chris Machowski of The Undercroft. The Undercroft is a member-driven cybersecurity guild and development center located in historic Ybor City, a neighboring city of Tampa FL.

Adam Sheffield is the Chief Executive Officer and Founding Member of The Undercroft and current President of Cybor, a not-for-profit information security guild located within the cybersecurity hub. He is currently Co-Chair of the USF Cybersecurity Education Advisory Board and serves as the Vice President of the Tampa Chapter of the Military Cyber Professionals Association. Adam previously served as the Associate Director for the Florida Center for Cybersecurity (FC2). Before that, Adam served in various operational and strategic roles with multiple organizations in the information operations, information technology, and defense industries in organizations ranging from bootstrapped startups to enterprise organizations. Adam is a former Army Infantryman and Human Intelligence Collector having led small teams on multiple continents across the globe.

Chris Machowski is the Co-Founder and Chief Influence Officer and leads the company's efforts shaping the new narrative for the cybersecurity industry.  He is responsible for all branding, content creation, and social media marketing related to The Undercroft as well as heads up the team responsible for creative services offered to clients. Chris is a filmmaker turned cybersecurity professional with a unique skill set to help tell the stories of the next generation of cyber warriors.

The name Undercroft is a traditional architectural term that was used to describe a cellar or storage area that was often brick-lined and vaulted. In modern usage, an undercroft is generally at ground level and covered by the building above.  It is a throwback to the architecture of our historic building El Pasaje, which means "the passage" in Spanish. In a cool tie to hacker culture, it is important to note that the undercroft beneath the House of Parliament in London was rented out to the conspirators behind the Gun Powder Plot which is what the movie "V for Vendetta" was based on and the Guy Fawkes mask became an iconic symbol in the hacker community.
