As WCBD News 2 celebrates its 70th anniversary, September 25, I am looking back on a promise made 40 years ago. I was a freshman at the University of South Carolina studying broadcast journalism. From one of those wall phones - hanging in a corner of each dorm floor - , I telephoned the mother of one of my very best friends. Joan Mack was not only Dandria‘s mother, she was also the first African-American woman I remembered seeing anchoring local television news in Charleston, South Carolina.
